Life without a greyhound is possible,
but meaningless
We are a volunteer-run greyhound rescue group in Melbourne, Australia, and we love, love, love greyhounds! They are such unique, sensitive and loving souls and deserve the best life.
Amazing Greys was founded in 2011; we rescue, rehabilitate and re-home ex-racing greyhounds and greyhound x breeds. Our greyhounds come from racing kennels or shelters, or are privately surrendered into our care.
Every greyhound in our care lives in a loving foster home until we find their pawfect forever home. While we search for that home, the greyhound undergoes vet treatment for things such as de-sexing, vaccinations, teeth cleaning and, if necessary, teeth extraction, etc. Some greyhounds also have muscular injuries or broken bones and need surgery and rest before they are adopted. Our foster families are supported by canine behaviourists and R+ trainers who help with settling the greyhound into a family home.
A positive outlook
Our greyhounds mostly come from racing kennels into our foster families and know nothing about pet life. Their wellbeing and welfare is our utmost priority and our forever and foster homes have been carefully vetted.
On top of providing the greyhounds with the medical attention they need, we ensure that their emotional needs are also met. We teach our greyhounds using positive reinforcement (R+) methods only and avoid aversive methods and equipment.
We are big on promoting responsible and kind greyhound pawrenthood and having realistic expectations when it comes to integrating a retired race dog into your family. It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it!
Amazing Greys is a very supportive community of greyhound lovers and every foster and forever family has access to positive reinforcement trainers and behaviourists to help settle their greyhound into their home.
